FEMA INCREASES TAMARAC’S FLOOD PLAIN RATING; SAVES RESIDENTS MONEY
City’s increase to a Class 6 Flood Rating can save residents 20% on flood insurance premiums.

Tamarac, Florida – The Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently announced that the City of Tamarac’s flood plain rating increased to a Class 6 under the National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) Community Rating System effective October 1, 2011. The Class 6 rating has the potential to save residents and businesses in certain flood zones 20% on their flood insurance premiums. This new rating results in over $1,000,000 in savings per year to approximately 14,300 flood insurance policy holders in Tamarac.

By participating in the Community Rating System, the City of Tamarac maximizes the benefit of the National Flood Insurance Program and helps to reduce the risk of flooding in our community. The City further benefits from the Community Rating System through the reduction in flood insurance premiums our residents and businesses receive.

The Class 6 rating represents an increase over the previous Class 7 rating the City has held for the past several years.
