TAMARAC EMPLOYEES JOIN FORCES WITH BSO TAMARAC FOR SAFE COMMUNITIES
The City of Tamarac is proud to have joined forces with BSO to “Keep Our Communities Safe.”
Tamarac, Florida – On Tuesday, December 13, 2011 City of Tamarac employees joined forces with the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) Tamarac District to participate in the county-wide "Keep Our Communities Safe" initiative.
Employees from the City of Tamarac’s Building, Community Development and Fire Rescue departments, along with community volunteers, joined City Manager Michael C. Cernech, BSO Tamarac District Chief Marc Duguay and BSO Tamarac District deputies, as they walked door-to-door, in the communities north of 78th Street and east of University Drive, to educate residents about how to avoid being a victim of home invasion crimes. Door hangers were distributed to make everyone aware how these criminals operate and what to do if they observe suspicious activity.
BSO Tamarac wants to remind everyone, gone are the days when thieves snuck around bushes checking to see if someone was home in order to commit a burglary. Today, criminals are bold, seeking out their victims in broad daylight. They knock on doors, and if they get a response, simply move on. However if no one answers, they’ve found their next target.
These bold new breed of burglars often wear uniforms or drive a car with a company’s signage to try and avoid suspicion. When they find their target, they will break open doors or windows in order to gain entry into the home. Most often, these burglaries happen when homeowners are at work; by the time a homeowner realizes they have been burglarized, the criminals are long gone.
Remember, if someone knocks on your door offering a service, asking for an unknown person, or makes any other unsolicited offers or suspicious excuse, dial 911 immediately. BSO Tamarac District deputies will gladly come to your neighborhood to make sure those individuals are not criminals in disguise.
